Yes, she really is going to church.
But -not- to "Get Religion".

I've been put forward by my career advisor to a local church that runs a basic IT skills course as a potential volunteer tutor.

So, I've been waiting for a phone call to find out if they want to use me.

I -get- a phone call "Can you come down and teach this afternoon?"

Should be interesting.

Is okay. I got there all right, and I'm going back tomorrow.

If things go well, it's looking like I might have two classes - the Tuesday class, which is four older folk who are complete beginners - and a Wednesday class, though I don't know who's in there yet.

Since you've done stuff like this before, do you have any suggestions for basics? I'm going to be working on e-mail and internet security next week with my Tuesday group - they've just gotten their first Hotmail accounts, and don't know the basics about how not to infect their machines with spyware and virii...

Nah - remember, I'm an ice dragon *grins* And my coffee -did- get cold supernaturally fast.... unless it was because I left it on a windowsill next to an open window.

Yeah, but realistically, how likely is that? :)

Probably as statistically likely as, say, the sky.

Not quite a job, but I suppose it's something. Maybe it'll get you noticed by an actual paying business? Like the user image if it's new too!

If you were to "get religious", I think I'd be kind of scared.

Believe it or not, I AM religious in many, many ways. Just not -Christian- religious (though I'm not mentioning that to my new volunteer-employer!) even if I have a reasonable knowledge of their religious texts.

Good luck!

Concerning internet security, I'm not sure if you'll be teaching anyone about firewalls and virus scanners, but I cannot stress enough just how badly anyone should have a good virus scanner and, if not behind a router, a good firewall. I also strongly recommend Ad-aware and Spybot for getting rid of spyware.

Though I'm guessing you probably knew about all of that already. :)

I'm not going to be going into as much detail as firewalls - we're talking about primarily retired folk who want to be able to log into a public computer and check e-mail. But I'm doing basic e-mail security ("How not to get a virus!") next week for both of my classes... I'll keep in mind mentioning things like Ad-Aware, though I don't want to blind them with stuff that's just going to confuse them.
